I was in Hanoi a few months ago, and stayed at The Golden Cyclo Hotel. When I arrived, my room was canceled. This turned out to be my Norwegian travel agents fault (that’s what you get for using a travel agent), as I had prepaid the money and they had forgotten to transfer them to the hotel in Hanoi. The hotel went out of their way to help me deal with this situation. They brought me fresh fruit and a cold drink while I waited, and the lady at economy was very friendly and polite while she tried to figure out what had happened. As the hours went by and we didn’t get much help from Norway, they booked me a room and told me we’d deal with the payment later. They noticed how exhausted I was, and the hotel was almost fully booked. A big THANK YOU to The Golden Cyclo Hotel for believing in me and taking care of me when I needed it.
Location: Excellent! This hotel is situated in the old part of Hanoi, within walking distance from many sights, and from famous shopping streets like Hang Gai. I was able to sleep without any noise from the side street.
Rooms: The bathroom interior was a bit tired looking if you’re picky. However, everything worked perfectly and the bed was great. Due to all my trouble, I was upgraded to a room with a balcony. I spent many quiet evenings on my balcony enjoying the sounds of Hanoi.
Restaurant: The restaurant in this hotel was great. The food was amazing, the prices definitely decent and the staff very friendly. The breakfast buffet included both European and Vietnamese food. The staff was always nearby to explain unknown dishes, and they were awesome at getting people to try out local meals.
I recommend this hotel if you want a central location, helpful people and tasteful food. Book a room with a balcony, relax and enjoy the beautiful sunset after a day of sightseeing. The Golden Cyclo Hotel will definitely be my home away from home whenever I’m in Hanoi.
