In order to live by Yeonmi Park
North Korea. It’s a country we all know of, but know very little about. I find it fascinating simply because I don’t know much about it, and devastating because pretty much everything I do know is really bad.
I came across “In order to live” while searching for books written by people who have escaped from North Korea. In her book, Yeonmi describes her life in North Korea, how she escaped, and everything she and her family went through, until she eventually ended up in South Korea.
This book is an easy read, and gives a good insight into Yeonmi’s thoughts both before and after her escape. If you want to know a bit about North Korea without reading a history book filled with facts, this book is for you.
Yeonmi Park is now a human rights activist. She participated in the One Young World summit in Dublin in 2014. Her speech is public on youtube, and really touched my heart.
